The Public Safety Committee held a regular meeting on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in the meeting room at the C.H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT.  First Selectman Borst called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m.

PRESENT:  First Selectman Joseph Borst, State Attorney Stephen Sedensky, Chief Michael Kehoe, Scott Semple, Garner Warden’s office, Gino Faiello, Director of School Facilities.

WARDEN’S REPORT: Mr. Semple reported that major training was taking place at Garner consisting of internal mock drills every two weeks.  They hope to go full scale in the fall with a simulated school lockdown.  Mr. Semple also stated that Garner’s population was 562, with 198 general population and 364 in mental health, category #4 and #5 groups.  There is also a category #3 transition group.

Mr. Borst asked about the training staff personnel receive relative to handling the mental population.  He stated staff personnel receive eight (8) hours per year in psychology training and forty (40) hours of needs assessment.

ADJOURNMENT:  There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
